Donor Advised Fund (DAF)
A donor advised fund allows you to simplify your charitable giving by establishing a fund managed by your preferred DAF advisor or organization. Through this fund, you can support the charities of your choice during your lifetime, such as Utah Valley University. It also offers a meaningful way for your children to continue your legacy of generosity after you're gone.
Are you looking for a way to benefit Utah Valley University both now and in the future? Would you like to simplify your annual and lifetime charitable giving? A donor advised fund (or DAF) might be a great solution for you.
Benefits of a donor advised fund
- Establish a flexible vehicle for annual charitable giving
- Benefit from a more tax and cost efficient alternative to a private foundation
- Receive an estate tax deduction and savings from your gift
- Obtain a charitable income tax deduction in the year of your gift
How a Donor Advised Fund (DAF) Works
A donor advised fund (DAF) is a flexible and tax-efficient way to support Utah Valley University (UVU) and other causes you care about. Here’s how it works:
- Make a Gift
You begin by making an initial, irrevocable contribution of cash, stock, or other assets to establish a DAF. - Grow Your Gift
The assets in your DAF are invested and grow tax-free, allowing you to potentially increase your charitable impact over time. - Recommend Grants
Each year, you can recommend grants from your DAF to support UVU or other qualified charities. - Create a Legacy
After your lifetime, your children may continue to recommend grants from your DAF. You can also name a qualified charity, such as UVU, as a beneficiary of your DAF, either for a specific amount, a percentage, or the remaining balance.
A DAF offers a meaningful way to support the causes you care about while involving your family in your philanthropic legacy.
More on donor advised funds
A donor advised fund has several advantages when compared to a private foundation. The start-up time and cost are minimal for DAFs, and gifts to DAFs are generally deductible at fair market value. A DAF is also not subject to the distribution requirements and certain excise taxes faced by private foundations.
